The Letter Writer

A beautiful lullaby of a movie
Let me start by saying that I am a guy who enjoys action, adventure and good horror movies, however every once in a while I would come across a rare movie that has the ability to comfort you in a way that reminds you that you have forgotten you could feel this way. The Letter writer is one such film. The movie is simple, honest and not too complicated as a lullaby should be. The core of the story is we attract what we send out in to the world, cheat and lie and you will be surrounded by charlatans and thieves, genuinely love and care and your will be engulfed by serenity and peace. The signature message of kindness and compassion resonates through the entire film. You will be challenged not to cry at several moments during this film. The movie can be enjoyed by all members of the family from 8 to 80. No vulgarity, no violence, etc.

Highly recommend for very feel good movie.

Powerful Message After a Slow Start
When the movie starts it begins to have all of the appearance of a teen-age angst movie and is somewhat hard to tolerate but give it some time, it develops into an effective and powerful movie. This is the story of a young girl from a broken home who is trying to pick up the pieces of her life after her parents' divorce.

For awhile nothing seems to be working for her until a mysterious letter arrives in the mail one day and provokes her curiosity as to who wrote it and why it was written. The latter part of the movie is a voyage of discovery for her as she discovers not only the sender of the letter but the remarkable young girl that has been hidden beneath the surface or her life.

The final message of the movie is a message of hope and promise in the face of difficulties that try to overwhelm life. This is a worthwhile movie with a positive message and I recommend it for the family.

Inspirational
Many years ago I used to write note cards and for what ever reason stopped. This movie not only reminded me of the lives my notes touched but also reminded me of smiles brought by those who received those notes. This movie brought lives together that needed healing, love, and compassion. What a wonderful movie, filled with God's Agape love. We are vessels used by God and this movie showed not only the vessels being used but the transformation it brought. I highly recommended it to all ages.

Money Shot

One of the Greatest Indie Comedies I've seen in a long time!!
I've had the pleasure to stumble onto Money Shot just out of curiosity. I love great comedies such as Animal House, Porky's, Airplane and Naked Gun. What they have in common is that special gift of staying with you in your memories and movie conversations. Remember that scene? Remember that joke? Remember that boob scene?

Certainly Money Shot has the funniest boob scene I've ever seen. I couldn't stop laughing. Money Shot has so many secret jokes that it will take you at least 10 views to get through the tip of the ice-berg. I won't spend time on the story but the characters deserve all the praise.

Aside from Jason Mewes who I thought did bring a very subtle and heartfelt performance and Epic Wrestler Al Snow intimidating role the rest of the cast is a top notch list of indie actors who I believe are slowly getting their name out there on other quality projects. Jessica Sonneborn is super sexy as Lena Starr and completely with no boundaries. She enjoys eating her...

Kevin Smith comedy with Jason Mewes in it.... ????
This movie is released by Kevin Smiths Smodcast pictures and had Jason Mewes in it... I had to check it out.

I wasn't dissapointed. It's really ridiculous and had some really funny moments. I'll just say it has one of the most over the top nudity scenes I have seen in a while.

Jay is a secondary character, but he has a great part as the pimp and is funny as usual. Wrestler Al Snow is in it and plays a great mobster.

The other characters are all pretty good, too.

It's about a group of people trying to make a horror movie.

If you want to laugh, have a watch.

what the h*ll did I just watch
This is a movie about a group of struggling filmmakers who have a small budget to make a movie, lose it after a night of partying, and decide to make a horror movie instead of facing the mobster that lent them the money. It's a ridiculous concept, but it works... This isn't a big budget blockbuster, but a really fun, funny low budget comedy. I would recommend grabbing a beer, a toke, and not taking this watch too seriously.

The first part of the movie is kinda long and that's why I gave it a 4 out of 5.

The characters are really really out there from the director character, Billy Sham to his band of misfits: Out of work actor: Lake, Party girl and Paris Hilton wanna be: Lena, and spoiled brat, teenager, Piper. The girls are really cute together and sexy. I found myself laughing out loud during many parts of this movie. Many of the scenes of this movie are like sketches, some being better than others, but for the most part they are really really funny...

Scooby-Doo! Mask of the Blue Falcon [HD]

A great Scooby-Doo movie paying tribute to some classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons
I was born in the late 70s and have fond memories of watching various Hanna-Barbera TV shows. Scooby-Doo has been a long time favorite of mine that I'm happy to share with my own kids now that I'm a dad. I was excited to see that Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Inc. team have a new adventure with the Blue Falcon and (more or less) Dynomutt.

I was really surprised when I noticed all the cameo appearances in this movie from other Hanna-Barbera cartoons. Space Ghost, the Herculoids, Captain Caveman, Speed Buggy, even Elektra from Teen Force (although she is humorously misidentified in the movie). I felt like a little kid again while watching this movie and the fact that my 3-year-old son and my 6-year-old daughter loved it too was just icing on the cake.

If you grew up during the 80s (or just love watching old 80s cartoons) then I highly recommend watching this feature-length Scooby-Doo adventure.

This is how it's done
Considering that they somehow created an entire season of Mystery INC without any direction and screwed it up, and that Big Top wasn't half bad but not the greatest, Mask Of The Blue Falcon hits the spot nicely.
It's certainly better than Music of the Vampire.
It's a worthy purchase, and i'd say feel free to stream it on here and buy the disc, you should want this one in your collection.
It's hard to top Camp Scare or Witch's Ghost. .
Camp Scare, Legend Of The Vampire, Zombie Island, Cyber Chase, Alien Invaders, Legend of the Phantosaur, and Witch's Ghost finally have some company in terms of quality. 2013 is starting out right for Scooby after a ho hum last year.
As long as I never see another Arabian Nights, i'll be fine. NEVER spend money on Arabian Nights, it's the one scooby you'd only have for completeness.

Another Great Scooby-Doo movie
I was so excited when I heard about this movie, and it did not disappoint! It was packed full of action and mystery - in the traditional Scooby-Doo kinda of way.
Loved it - has all the Mystery Inc characters and some other ones that have popped up here and there throughout the Scooby shows. We watched the Amazon Instant Video, and already pre-ordered the DVD.

Fireplace for your Home Christmas Music edition

hey!
Hey, my computer is on fire! And for free! This Amazon Prime thing is weird sometimes. Good thing you don't have video atomic bombs.

Marshmallows stuck on my Bravia screen...
This is a video of a fireplace, from just when the fire starts to take hold, 'til just before it's almost burned out. This version has added holiday/Christmas music to the background.

To enjoy "the fire" without the music, go here: Fireplace for your Home - Classic Edition or search for Fireplace for your Home video. (There is even a "Romance" fireplace video from the same folks. I haven't seen it.)

I liked it... I cycled it through a few times while I was finishing up some desk work, doing some laundry, and tidying up the house. (I streamed it to my Bravia 52".) I found myself watching it every now and then... it is a bit hypnotic, like a real fire would be.

It isn't the same as a real fire, obviously; there is no heat or smell, but also no maintenance or fear of sparks on the carpet. It requires a bit of imagination, but so what? If a fireplace with a toasty/soothing...

Great show. kids loved it
So I found this and streamed it for a few days before christmas. family loved this. I will say to start the book as always was way better. But they did a great job of transerring it to the screen. I was sad to see that it was cancelled after only two episodes.

Christmas with Danny Kaye featuring Peggy Lee

Truly Funny
I found this to be very funny. The scenes were Danny is doing his normal shtick is the best. I don't mind the singing and musical number, but I think they should have put just a little more comedy in the show.

Hello I Must Be Going

Cure for Agoraphobia
This is pretty standard romantic comedy fare; the most amusing part is the May/December romance (well, not really December...) which features a (sorta) older woman and a younger man.

A recent divorcée has to move back home because her husband wanted the divorce and she has never held a job. Now she is caught in a spiral of embarrassment, ennui, and agoraphobia. Her well-meaning parents are anxious for her to get out and start to take an interest in life: she hasn't left the house for three months. They decide to throw a party for one of Dad's clients to pave the way for his possible retirement, while at the same time, to motivate their daughter to change out of her old t-shirt and meet some new people.

We meet:
* Melanie Lynskey ("Ever After") is Amy, sorely in need of an antidepressant; she mixes her metaphors and says, "I had the rug pulled over my eyes."
* Blythe Danner ("The Lucky One") is Ruth, her mother, who reads Dr. Seuss to her...

Engaging divorce and family drama
"Hello I Must Be Going" (2012 release; 95 min.) brings the story of Amy (played by Melanie Lynskey), a thirty-something who has just moved back into her parens' house after her husband left and divorced her. Amy hasn't legt the house in three months and doesn't get up before noon. In other words: depressed. Amy's dad, who is a lawyer, is trying to woo a potential new client, and at a dinner party with the potential new client and his extended family including his 19 yr. old stepson Jeremy (played by Christopher Abbott), Jeremy and Amy develop an instant crush on each other. Soon therafter, they have a fully blooming affair. Inevitably, one day, they get found out. To tell you more of the plot would ruin your viewing experience, you'll just have to see for yourself how it all plays out.

Several comments: (1) it must be Melanie Lynskey weekend for me here in Cincinnati: I just saw her yesterday in a (much smaller) role in "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" and now today she...

All Of Life's Little Curves At One Time
Although this film might be seen as formulaic, it's the two female leads that make it work. Amy is quirky & slightly puzzled & lost in wonder. Her mother is so grounded she can't seem to ever get off the ground. There are dreams & nightmares but they are real life for the characters in this movie & you get to watch how they deal with those moments because like all dreams & nightmares, they tend to come to a quick end. I wouldn't call this a slice of life but compressed life. I'm really glad I watched it & I'll watch it again. Melanie Lynskey is a wonderful actress & she has a natural beauty that reminds me of Kelly MacDonald & Emily Mortimer. Although I know it will not impress her to find this out, she has added another fan to her circle that I am certain is very wide & quite full.

Blaze Starr Goes Nudist

more sexploitation classics
If you're here looking for a Bermanesque treatise on the soul, you're looking in the wrong place. Pay little attention to the fellow that posted the previous review. Just by looking at the title, he should have known what he was getting into and he deserved to be disappointed. Yes, the acting is bad and the budget is lower than most but Doris Wishman's films have their own particular charm. The folks responsible for The Incredibly Strange Film Show (a British documentary series from the late 80's that profiled cult directors-Wishman shared a profile with Fred Olen Ray) briefly compared her to Jean-Luc Godard in her disregard for the rules of classic film composition. Doris is probably best known for her movies starring Chesty Morgan, Deadly Weapons and Double Agent 73. Enough digression. Both Nude on the Moon and Blaze Starr Goes Nudist are fun nudie cuties/nudist camp flicks. Nude on the Moon (which Doris shared co-director credit with Raymond Phelan) is a ridiculous little...

Blaze Starr finds relaxation
Blaze is a big time actress in this movie who is severly overworked by her lover/manager and must find a restful retreat. She finds paradise at a Florida nudist colony. Now more self-reliant than ever, this causes a rift between Blaze and her manager. How will it end? This is camp madness! Bad acting, bad blocking, badly looped soundtrack, and a lame excuse to show lots of naked people at a nudist colony. It is sheer camp HEAVEN. And the Eastmancolor print is FABULOUS. NEVER has Eastmancolor looked this good. This movie will make you laugh, it will make you cry (with laughter), it will make you the hit of the party!

Authentic for the time
Given the retraints of the time, this is an entertaining enough video. The nudity is very limited, which is awkward given that it is a nudist video. Much better Naturist documentaries are now on DVD, like Mother Naturists and Rituals of Summer both here at amazon. It also doesn't make much sense to have these old titles on DVD as the image quality pales in comparison to the more recent Naturist productions, like the 2 listed above. Overall a fun oldies film but don't expect much nudism.

The Good Doctor [HD]

A Quiet, Intelligent Drama
You can't quite call this movie a suspense thriller, although there are certainly suspenseful scenes in it. What's that noise in the back of the medicine room? Who's there? Will he be caught?

It's more of a quiet, intense character study. A young doctor becomes obsessed with one of his patients. When she is released from the hospital and seems likely to go flitting off with boyfriends, in social circles removed from him - he arranges to make her sick enough to have to come back to the hospital - to him. He does this in a sort of abstracted state of mind. We are never sure how far he really intends his sickening of the girl to go.

But, for a while at least, he succeeds in making her his own, a saintly pallor of a girl transfixed on her hospital bed.

This is a compelling, involving movie. It is brilliantly acted. Every character becomes starkly real on the screen - from the randy, self-seeking orderly - to the Doctor himself. If you like low-key...

2 1/2 stars: A good performance by Orlando Bloom can't save this creepy drama
Orlando Bloom stars as Dr. Martin Blake, a first year resident under the supervision of Chief Resident Waylans (Rob Morrow). Blake is loner who has a hard time mixing with the staffers. He has no friends and lives in a stark but kind-of-cool apartment. An 18 year old girl comes under his care with a treatable urinary infection. Diane (Riley Keough) has a boyfriend but when they appear to be breaking up, confides in Dr. Blake. He is smitten with young Diane.

When she is released, her family invites Blake over for dinner. Their motives appear to be one of thanks but to also prompt a romance between Blake and Diane's older sister who is on the make. Certainly a doctor will do just fine. Blake has other ideas. He's only interested in Diane. Upon a return visit to pick up a gift basket they had prepared (way too many coincidences in this film) he excuses himself to the bathroom where he alters Diane's medication which lands her back in the hospital.

Through...

Excellent thinking person's thriller
With the new medical thriller the Good Doctor, British star Orlando Bloom finally comes into his own as an actor of substance and a screen presence to be reckoned with. This represents something of a coming out party, playing the challenging role of Dr. Martin Blake, an unassuming man who wants to be good, but is for some unknown reason drawn towards an evil he just can't help. Bloom is perfectly suited for this role, playing the character appropriately low key, as unassuming, calm and is totally convincing. Bloom, has been an actor that has impressed me little with his career choices, but I have always suspected that there was more to him than what we were getting in movies such as Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.
Dr. Blake on the surface appears as a kind, friendly, outgoing young doctor who's just arriving at his new post in an American hospital under the supervision of Dr. Waylan (Rob Morrow). However, he quickly has a clash with an outspoken Nurse (Taraji P...

Varietease

Let the buyer beware!
Unspeakably awful! There's very little of Bettie, and a great, great deal of excruciatingly cornball late-'50s style variety "entertainment" that you might imagine might be cute and endearing but most emphatically is not. You'd have to be a great deal hornier than I was to find Lily St. Cyr's strip tease arousing, and the only notable musical performer is a woman with an extraordinarily huge head. If you've never trusted another review in your life, trust this one: you might as well throw the money away.

Bettie doesn't dance well, but she doesn't need to
Bettie again displays her incredible beauty and presence. I have never seen Bettie in films until recently, and she shows here she is more attractive and seductive when in motion.

I say this much: Bettie Page wasn't a very good dancer. But she doesn't need to be. She knows how to use what she has like no other showgirl ever could. I found her "Dance of the Four Veils" rather subdued for Bettie, and the makeup artist went overboard before sending her onstage. But the main thing to note is that Bettie is Bettie - the most alluring woman I have ever seen.

Since she is a part of a former pop culture, we should be glad that she has been preserved on digital media. Her appearance in the "Dream Scene" from Striporama is a rare speaking role, and she shows just how cute she really is.

The film quality is good, considering what the original must be like after all these years. Remember that too many older, less popular films will not be digitized and saved for the...

Bettie couldn't dance, but who cares?
Bettie loses some "coolness points" when she dances, but if you go into frame-by-frame mode on your DVD player it's obvious that each frame of her dancing would have made a great still shot in and of itself. Proof that she was a great poser, and a lousy dancer, but as she has said herself, she was "far from being a professional dancer". Still, she is very appealing, despite the fact that neither my husband nor myself could contain our unabated laughter during her dance scenes. Her sparkle and sense of fun are evident throughout, she is in great shape, and her ever-changing and playful facial expressions are absolute treats to see.

Plus! You get to "Hear Bettie speak!" in addition to seeing her jump around - uhhm I mean dance.

The best part of the DVD is, yes of course, the silent, black and white arcade film loop of Bettie made specifically for those old-time coin-activated viewers....Bettie gyrates up to a point, then the screen is suddenly blocked out with a...

Bloody Christmas

Awesome movie!
This movie is a lot of fun. One of the most unpredictable movies I've seen in a while. It's the perfect mix of sad, funny, and gory. The movie is well-acted, well-edited and the cinematography is reminiscent of '70s horror classics. And there is a scene where a girl's chest gets lit on fire in the shape of a cross! You could not ask for much more in an independent Christmas horror movie. I can't wait to watch it again!

Bloody Awful
This is an extremely low budget and low talent creation. It is ineptly made and ineptly told. The idea that they would ever, even within a week of its release, suggest a price of $15 might be a crime against humanity. The reviewer who gave this five stars must have been the director or a simpleton. It was actually emotionally painful for me to watch. Thank goodness I received a free copy rather than paid anything for it. The only way you will come across this is to see it in the schlock section of Netflix and you might think it'd be a bit of fun. Don't think that. It is worthless. Can I give it negative stars? It pains me to give it one.

Done the Impossible [HD]

Firefly Fans Rule!
First, I have a confession to make. Unlike many "Firefly" fans, I had never even heard of Joss Whedon when the show premiered on Fox in the Fall of 2002. I was not a member of the existing "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel" fan base that anxiously awaited Whedon's latest offering--I had never seen either show. I did enjoy "Firefly" for the brief time that it aired (although I missed a few episodes), but I didn't really appreciate it until it was too late. I didn't get hooked until after I bought the complete series DVD set and saw "Serenity" on the big screen.

I was a little hesitant about buying "Done the Impossible" at first, since I didn't think a "fan-produced" DVD could possibly have much to offer. Was I ever wrong! Every "Firefly" fan should have this. It may be a little too deep, esoteric or complicated for a casual viewer who just happened to catch a couple of episodes, or for someone who went to see "Serenity" for lack of something else to do. But if you've...

a Great DVD for the fans
Don't let the fact this is a 'fan produced' documentary about the Firefly/Serenity phenon. put you off.

This is a high-quality dvd, with good special features too boot. It has interviews with a large number of fans who were touched and worked not only to get the cancelled series to the big screen but also worked for charities along the way. Most of the members of the cast are part of the DVD, as well as the creator, Joss Whedon.

If you love the series, you owe it to yourself to check this out - you'll probably find it emotionally moving. If you've only caught a couple of episodes of the show, or just the movie - you'll still want to check it out, because this is a compelling story about fans keeping a show they love alive, and something that's never been done before - EVER.

Bringing a cancelled TV show to a major motion picture.

Man, I miss the show.

Excellent Documentary about a Fan Family
Excellently written and edited documentary. Professional quality video and audio all the way through. Moved along swiftly with chapters starting with clever and appropriate series quotes in white print on full black screen. For example, Jayne's "Time for some thrilling heroics". Almost no duplication of special features from the Firefly and Serenity DVD to the best of my recollection. Adam Baldwin was surprisingly easy to believe as a serious host even though his character in the movie is very different. I had to laugh when he says that some "fan fiction is kind of creepy". Could he mean some of the Jayne/Mal or Jayne/Simon "slash" fiction out there? I am also wondering why "Simon" and "River" didn't appear more.

The DVD-ROM special features require Apple Quicktime. That's a shame, because everytime I've installed quicktime, I've regretted it when I tried to remove it. It's like a boot sector virus and won't go fully away. I don't install it anymore regardless of the...

Dirty Girl

A very surprising and good movie that deals with some heavy subjects. A movie that deserves to be watched I say A-
"If it's a man's world God wouldn't have made me." Danielle (Temple) lives life on her own terms. When her mouth gets her in trouble at school she is sent to the "special" classroom. After an assignment pairs her up with a school loser her life is forever changed. The saying goes don't judge a book by it's cover, that could not be more true for this movie. The first ten minutes is what you would expect but from then on it becomes an emotional movie that deals with some pretty heavy subjects. The acting is great in this and there is an all-star cast along with some surprising cameos. If I keep talking I am afraid I will give something away and that would do the movie an injustice. Much like the movie "Good Old Fashioned Orgy" I think that the movie would get a better audience if the title was different. Do yourself a favor and watch this movie. Overall, a very surprising movie that was much much better then I expected. I give it an A-.

Juno Temple Is a Star: Surprisingly Engaging, Heartfelt And Funny Despite Too Many Expected Cliches
Despite my better instincts, I'd have to call writer/director Abe Sylvia's "Dirty Girl" fairly irresistible. I'm not usually so soft-hearted, but a spirited cast led me to let go of my reservations and just go with the flow. And I quite enjoyed "Dirty Girl" on those terms. It may lack a bit of originality, but it's just so darned likable. Yes, the movie employs every tired cliche expected in a road trip comedy. Yes, the movie revisits the common themes of a hundred different coming-of-age sagas. Yes, many of the peripheral characters are garishly over-the-top as are the eighties set pieces. Yes, the film sometimes plays to easy punchlines, especially in relationship to homosexual themes. Yes, the movie has some of the most patently ridiculous scenes you might imagine (wait until you catch a nightly striptease contest in rural Nevada! The fact that it is a nightly event only scratches the surface of why it is so preposterous). And yet, here I am recommending the movie. It...

A True Audience-Pleaser
DIRTY GIRL is a funny, ultimately touching, coming-of-age/road movie that undergoes a major shift in tone during its third act, and yet remains an extremely satisfying viewing experience.

Written and directed by Abe Sylvia, the film is set in ultra-conservative Norman, Oklahoma in 1987, and centers on Danielle (Juno Temple), the high school tramp, who is paired on a class parenting project with fellow student Clarke (Jeremy Dozier), an overweight gay kid.

When Danielle's mother (Milla Jovovich) announces her engagement to her strict-minded Mormon boy friend (William H. Macy, in a role that should make Mitt Romney cringe), the girl decides to head for Fresno, California, to finally meet her biological father, and because he has a car and a credit card, she drafts Clarke to accompany her.
Unfortunately, that prized Cadillac belongs to Clarke's violent homophobic father (Dwight Yoakam), who goes after the couple, while his repressed wife (Mary Steenburgen) and...

Reveal the Path

A tragedy of missed opportunities.
My wife and I have been waiting for a movie that shares the inspiration of traveling via bicycle. Unfortunately this film only came close in the trailers and previews.

The sound was a problem for us as poorly placed music bites and off mic sounds like crackling fires and pouring rain suppressed much of the dialogue. The scenery was beautiful and left us asking whens and wheres, but there was little facilitation. Distances, objectives, even serendipitous encounters with interesting people or creatures were squandered with the lack of much desired story telling. It was like a Terrence Malick film without the talents of Terrence Malick. The breaks between 'chapters' were embarrassing and unclever but the only tool in order to distinguish one part of the journey from the next.

As ironic as it sounds the film lacked a direction. We kept searching for profundity until it became painfully clear that it was absent. Any intended plot seemed based on some nice...

Good but not Great
Having received this film in the mail yesterday. I was excited. Even Facebook'd that it arrived. Maybe I set the bar too high. What I expected was a better, more thought provoking global version of Ride the Divide. The film misses in many cases. It does not outline the clear route. It does not account for how many miles or even days that were spent on the bike. There are many clear opportunities for amazing bike footage and it does not exist. When Matthew Lee rides the Alpe d'Huez on a loaded mountain bike the film compresses this great feat into about 25 seconds. There are great scenes that are really enjoyable in Morocco and Nepal yet no real mention about distance. At one point in morocco the film shows a SUV driving the bikes to a shooting location. It appears that the team spent only days in each location... Yet I don't want to believe this to be true.

Having backpacked through Grindelwald, I expected the group to at least ride from Interlaken to Grindlewald,...

Uhh... wha.. did I just watch??
I agree with the other reviews here. This was like being invited to someone's house, then they through on their home videos of their vacation. No logical order. One minute, you're in Nepal, about 1 min of actual riding, and to make matters worse, it's on a fire road! Que??, then the next minute you're in some other place? No explanation of a goal or purpose for each place. There's truly only about 20mins worth of actual 'biking' if you want to call it that, broken up by some monotonous conversation with themselves. I think all the bike footage in the movie can be seen in the trailer! Not much action at all, boring. I did like the film 'Ride the Divide', but this one falls WAAAAY short...

One Day on Earth

A Massive Video Project Becomes An Impressive Collage Travelogue
The story behind the new film "One Day On Earth" is almost more fascinating than the movie itself! The project, which was proposed in 2008, was to have a global community come together and film footage of their native country at some point on October 10, 2010. Meaning to unite universal awareness, heighten interest in growing world concerns, and put environmental activism in the spotlight, the experiment became of interest to groups around the world who wanted to document important social issues. This collaborative media event was followed by one on 11/11/11 and another on 12/12/12. Generating thousands of hours of footage, in every language conceivable, the project has amassed a huge Internet following of those looking to make a difference both locally and on a global scale.

It would be fair to say that "One Day On Earth" is a feature length documentary based on the footage archived from 10/10/10. But in the traditional sense, it is more of a collage style sensory...

Humbling, Troubling, and Moving
In this age of the internet where we are supposedly more connected than any time in history, One Day on Earth serves as an inspirational, yet daunting reminder of the diversity and fragility of our species and planet. Filmed in every country on earth on October 10, 2010, I have never watched a film that captured our similarities as humans, while simultaneously documenting our disparity as nations and cultures. The entitled and the embattled are all present and accounted for, including an overview from beyond earth's atmosphere. I've seen this film three times now, and have come away from each viewing with different lasting impressions. It is a film that is greater than the sum of its many extraordinary parts. I do not wish to give away my favorite moments. I would rather you watch and discover for yourself. I am simply happy this film was made, and look forward to the remaining installments, filmed on 11/11/11 and 12/12/12. As this film was made in every country on earth, so should it...

Incredibly Inspiring and Eye-Opening
What an interesting idea for a film, and so well executed. A look at the world as a whole, unified, yet so torn apart at the same time. It's hard throughout the film to remember that these events are all occurring on the same day, but once you remind yourself-it's fascinating. It makes you feel so small, but part of something so much bigger than you can relaly imagine.

Overall, a truly unique and inspiring film. Highly recommend.

10 Years [Blu-ray]

Very realistic reunion movie
Have you been to your ten-year high school reunion yet? If you have then you will relate to this film starring Channing Tatum. There were a couple of stereotypes like the hot girl everyone's eager to see whether or not she got fat. Or the class bully whom you're hoping doesn't show up at all. Most of all, though, when you go to your reunion you're eager to see the people who meant the most to you. Like a sweetheart, or the guy you had a crush on. All of these scenarios are represented in this film. I admit, I chose it because of Anthony Mackie whom I'd just seen kicking vampire butt in Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter, but I'm glad I watched this film. It was more poignant than I thought it would be. A lot of the characters matured in the ten years since they'd graduated. Although one of them was still a bully deep down even though he made a show of having 'changed'. Entertaining and even enlightening, give 10 Years a try.

Good Story w/ Humor and Realism
I was a little reluctant to watch this movie given the couple bad reviews that I read on Amazon and the "average" IMDB rating. I just finished watching this and I would indeed rate this at least 7 out of 10. The story line had humor, romance, realism, and the acting and storyline were both above average.

I don't like silly movies that have no heart or emotion in both acting and storyline, and this movie, 10 Years, has both Heart and Emotion and left me feeling like watching it again.

This will go into my movie Library.

Not a bad movie, but not great either.
10 Years has a great cast and the performances are all very good. The problem, or the movie's strong point, depending on your taste, is that the pace and the individual stories are very realistic. The problem with that is that things move a little slowly. I did enjoy the movie, and it's worth the price of a rental, but it's not something that I would go out of my way to see again.

Primer [HD]

The Permutations are Endless
The "whole package" is what this movie is about. It would seem that the intangibles combined with the intentional-create a synergy that captivates the mind!

"The permutations are endless" well sums up the movie. What would you do...if you could have perfect hindsight and foresight-how long would your altruism and your noble idealism last?

It's so dimensional you will watch it over and over. I read where some feel they have it figured out, but the sage advice comes from a fan that says "stop reading and keep watching!"

The low-budget while evident at times, actually adds to the mystique. I found myself annoyed by the slightly muffled and sometimes garbled soundtrack-which incidentally improved towards the middle (probably as Shane developed his prowess with audio and the actors begin to project a bit more). The graininess of the film shows through at times, but once again- it sets the mood and actually looks very intentional. Yet, that very tension...

Unconventionally Fresh
I saw this film on a whim with little knowledge of the story or acclaims. My physics background definitely helped me get a better grasp of the complex subject matter. Don't get me wrong, I left the theatre as dazed and confused as most people did. But, it was somewhere along the lines of complete awe.

This film is probably one of the best films I've seen dealing with time travel. The grainy, washed out quality of the film gave it a realistic documentary style. I didn't see the comparisons with Memento that most people refer to. The feeling I got from the movie was closer to the intesity I felt when I watched The Insider. I just felt tense and uneasy as the characters fiddled with their new "toy". The soundtrack had a very good ambient touch that helped add emphasis to the seriousness of the film.

So, in short; if you like intellectual, intense, dramatic, sci-fi movies, then you'll like this film. And, yes it may be a little to artsy for some. If Timecop...

It's Supposed to Be Confusing
Plot Summary Two friends and research entrepreneurs serendipitously develop a time travel machine. Thankfully free from an overt attempt to try to articulate the technical solution to time travel, the movie deals with the progressive temptations the friends face as they plunge deeper into a dizzying map of future-past interdependencies. They make the expected exploitation of the stock market but their dabblings with the relationship between future and past and present begin to be concerned with friends and family. As they do this, the movie becomes increasingly confusing due to the complexities of the causalities and changes they are working in the lives of other people.

Script The script is pretty solid, especially considering the complexity of the story line. The dialogue is natural, to the point where I wondered if most of it was improvised.

Acting and Character Development Surprisingly good. The two primary characters play off each other well. Their...

Shelter Me

An Uplifting PBS Documentary Special: Great Personal Stories Involving Shelter Pets
The PBS documentary special "Shelter Me" is rather straightforward in its goal. Director Steven Latham wants your next pet to be adopted from a shelter. And why not? Every year, several million animals are put down in American shelters. There simply isn't enough room or sufficient resources to house these animals indefinitely. And yet, the demands for pets has never really wavered. From a personal standpoint, I've never understood this disconnect. It would never occur to me to NOT reach out to a shelter. These creatures need a home. The twist in the two part "Shelter Me" is that not only do those profiled rescue the animals, but in many ways these abandoned pets go on to rescue their new owners. It's a lovingly created film that will inspire and touch you. While there is much unpleasantness in the topic of animal shelters, this 57 minute feature focuses on some specific and positive personal stories. And if you love animals, this is certainly a must-see endeavor...

A Must To Watch
This movie is a must watch one. Especially with all the family present. It really touches your heart and makes you definitely want to make a "life-long" commitment. Yep folks, if you adopt a pet, whatever it is, please, please remember that for the life of that animal it's YOUR responsibility to love, feed, and take care of it. In turn it gives you love, protection, and commitment. I especially believe in animals touching those people in desperate need of both physical and mental support. You will definitely enjoy this movie. A definitely buy for my DVD collection.

Very touching tribute to newer avenues for shelter dogs
I wanted to see this show on PBS but I couldn't figure out the viewing schedule on the station in my area. I am highly into anything that is dog related so I had heard of all these different programs mentioned in this special before. It was still very interesting and moving to view these individual programs that were featured. What struck me as always was how deep an impact each of these dogs had on the trainers and then again on the people they were placed with. I definitely needed my Kleenex during the last part of the program-PTSD soldiers and their dogs.

I did buy the movie for download. I think just a rental would have sufficed unless I wanted to share the film with a friend.

So happy there a shelter dogs getting a chance to change someone's world.

Total Recall (Two Discs: Blu-ray + UltraViolet Digital Copy) [Blu-ray]

Differences between the Director's Cut and the Theatrical Cut
I'm primarily interested in the storyline differences between the Director's Cut and its theatrical counterparts, so here are the differences between the two (NOTE: SPOILERS FOLLOW).

The Director's Cut runs about 12 minutes longer than the theatrical cut. No additional gore has been added although additional F-bombs have been added. Ethan Hawke makes a surprise appearance in a scene that was cut from the theatrical movie.

(1) Extra scene of Quaid meeting with a Human Resources Management representative from the Cohaagen administration who requests that he sign a non-disclosure agreement given that he works at a sensitive defense production factory. (I can see why this was cut as it didn't add much to the overall storyline.)

(2) Extra scene of scantily clad women in Rekall neighborhood. (The three mammary gland-ed lady still makes the same appearance with topless nudity.)

(3) In the scene where Quaid finds the hidden holographic piano...

Different Enough From the Original To Make It Entertaining
I just got back from the Midnight showing of this movie and I have to say that I was actually quite impressed with the storyline as it differed just enough from the original to make the film very entertaining, yet didn't seem to be a complete re-hash of the original Total Recall starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Of course the special effects were much better than the original film, but I have to admit that Arnold has such a presence that it makes it very hard to compete against him. Especially when you are playing the part he played so well in the original. However, Colin Farrel does do a good job playing the role of Douglas Quaid, or is it Hauser. I'm not really sure and that is the point of the movie. The cast is rounded out with Bryan Cranston from Breaking Bad: The Complete First Season fame reprising the role originally played by veteran...

KILL HIM ON SIGHT!
I kept thinking about the original film while watching this one. To put it simply: Arnold was better than Colin Farrell. Kate Beckinsale in the expanded role is better than Sharon Stone, and I really love them both. Jessica Biel is better than anyone, if you don't believe me, ask her. What I really liked about this film is the updated special effects, down to the electronic notes on the refrigerator door. I love attention to detail.

The action was fast paced. The future looks similar to "The Fifth Element" but with more computer gizmos. If you have seen the original version, then you can miss the first few minutes of this one and be able to pick it up.

For some reason they eliminated all the fun aspects of going to Mars. That is why we watched the first film. Instead we get a film where we simply root for the terrorists. The terrorists are revolting against the Chancellor who wants to replace workers with synthetics, although this theme was poorly developed...

Electronic Awakening

Phenomenal movie!!!
I saw Electronic Awakening at one of their screenings in San Diego. Electronic Awakening opened my mind up to a whole new way of thinking and perceiving music. It connects interesting dots between the origins of music and our connect to it as a culture. Drawing questions to, and also shedding light upon, similar sensory experiences we all experience as humans when we hear a piece of music that strikes an intense emotion and often spiritual sense of connectivity.

The Things We Carry [HD]

Amazing
Truly an amazing movie. The Things We Carry is an independent film about Emmie (Alyssa Lobit) returning back home from traveling around Asia to hear her drug addict of a mother, Sunny, has died. As the film goes on, we learn of Emmie's volatile relationship with her mother and older sister. The flashbacks of Emmie and Sunny's relationship frequent blowups were disturbingly candid. Practically everyone can relate to this movie because of that familiar sense hopelessness when we watch our loved ones destroying themselves (like in this movie, with drugs). All we want to do is help them, but in such a way that reassures them that they are not in this life alone, and shouldn't resume destroying themselves.
What I loved the most about this movie is that it covers an Asian- American family (Korean) where generally having a mental disorder or anything out of the 'ordinary' is never spoken of. If it is mentioned, people gossip about it. I don't understand why it's not allowed to say,...

Intense and beautiful...
We can all relate to the differing experiences of siblings, and this film envelopes you with its vision of one family. The characters are brought together, from extremes of steadfast loyalty and adventurous escapism, to pick up the pieces of their shared past. Memories return, the kind which make your chest ache and put a lump in your throat and make you want to scream and cry at the same time. I found it effortless to get into the emotions portrayed, as though I were right there, like an unseen little brother, following Alyssa Lobit as Emmie into scenes both heart breaking and beautiful. Open a bottle of wine, and enjoy a film that might make you want to call your family and catch up.

I loved it!!
I have never written a review for amazon before but this movie affected me so much, I absolutely had to write one! Being an Asian American woman, there were just so many things I could relate to in the movie. It was a very emotional movie, don't forget the tissue box!

The Other Dream Team [HD]

A fascinating look at a team that overcame insurmountable odds to claim victory
Although I will only receive this DVD when it is released in Jan. 2013, I did see this on the big screen. This documentary is a fascinating look at the Lithuanian basketball team that won the Bronze medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. It provides the back-story to how these athletes worked hard and ultimately, were on the medal stand in Barcelona. When Lithuania was under Soviet occupation, these same guys played on the "USSR" basketball squad. These guys tell the real story of what it took for them to succeed and the trials-and-tribulations they had to go through. Seems that Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead came in at the last second to fund them on their successful quest. The documentary moves between the players giving their story and American basketball players and announcers providing their input. If you love basketball and love a story about underdogs who struggle and get to the top, this documentary is for you. It does offer a primer on the process of how...

Riveting sports/political documentary will move you to tears
I was recently browsing the documentary film section at my local library and fell upon this. Didn't really know much about it but I was intrigued and so I decided to pick it up. So glad I did!

"The Other Dream Team" (2012 release; 90 min.) brings the story of how Lithuania, wiht its rich basketball tradition, was annexed by the USSR in 1940. The documentary starts with the basketball victory of the USSR over Team USA in the 1988 Olypmics in Seoul. As it turns out, 4 out of the 5 starters on that USSR team are actually from Lithuania. We then get to know those 4 players, told by present-day interviews of those players. As the documentary unfolds, we see how Lithuania coped during the decades of Russian occupation, and how in 1991 they won their independance, leading to the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, where, yes, the US brought its Dream Team (Jordan/Magic Johnson/Bird, etc.), but there was much more at stake for Lithuania. To tell you more would ruin your viewing experience,...

Excellently done!
This is a film about Lithuania and their 1992 Olympic basketball team.

It is a wonderful documentary! My 11 year old daughter went with me and she loved it as well (and she doesn't even play basketball.) This well depicts the struggle and triumph of a united nation, even when they weren't considered a nation by the rest of the world.

Forced to Fight

THE GLOVES ARE OFF
Scotty (Arkie Reece) is a fighter for crime boss Danny G.(Peter Weller). When he refuses to take a dive, it cost Danny money. Scotty is punished for his actions and his brother, a retired fighter (Gary Daniels as Shane), is coerced back into the ring to pay off his brother's debt. Shane doesn't want to fight as he now is raising a family. Alexandra Weaver plays his wife Connie.

While his brother Scotty is at home recovering, Shane is fighting. He can fight Apollo Creed, Mr. T, and the big ugly Russian guy all in one night. The film consists of fighting and Shane's deteriorating home life as he uncharacteristically goes off the deep end against family and friend. This aspect was not well developed. In the beginning, the fighting seemed like choreographed kick boxing. It didn't look real. The characters overall needed better developing and the plot needed a better twist or at least a decent one. They also needed to develop the fight opponents better. Unless you're a fan of...

STAR DESERVES MORE PRAISE
I've always been a big martial arts film fan. It started when I first saw ENTER THE DRAGON while in high school. To me that film remains the best martial arts film ever made and one of the top ten action films ever created. It was also the film that opened the door for more martial arts films that made their way into the mainstream in the 70s and increased in the 80s and 90s.

There were a number of martial arts stars during those decades that seemed to come out of nowhere and find themselves at the center of films. Billy Blanks, Don "The Dragon" Wilson, Sho Kusugi and more were front and center on the video shelves. Towards the end another star emerged as well, Gary Daniels. While his movies did well, he never seemed to get the attention he deserved. What was nice was that he did get the chance to continue on where so many just disappeared. He even got to star in some great movies such as THE EXPENDABLES. And now he returns to be the name above the title in the just...

Gary Daniel's best yet!
I always have been a big fan of Gary Daniels and he is one of the few great martial arts/actors.He gives a solid performance as a family man forced to fight to clear a family debt.Peter Weller was great as a sleazy fight promoter. He kinda reminds me of the father from Hardcore Pawn. The ending was awesome as the credits roll.I hope to see him in more films as the lead. It's well worth the 10 bucks at Walmart.

Kids Go To The Woods... Kids Get Dead

It Cliche but the GOOD kind of cliche'!
If a B rated slasher film looked at itself and the mirror and said "your good enough, your scary enough, and gosh darn it people like you!" this is the reflection it would see! It brought me right back to my childhood watching the late night stabfests with my babysitter! Yes it is a lost art and NO the makers of the movie were not trying to live up to some 21st Century "found film" BS that is all the rage. This is vintage baby! I have a copy of this DVD and play it on a continuous loop every Halloween. Why? Because its thematic! It is like going to Jekyll & Hydes in Manhattan to see all the Bela Lugosi films playing in the background. It sets the tone! Its fun! Plus I like to support small independent film makers. It is Directors like Michael Hall who keep pushing the envelope, working to improve their craft. Stay in it for the thrill and emotional gain they get. Not just crank out crap for the masses! This looked about as fun to make as it was to watch! I love it!

college made-? grade-Slasher
There is nothing to say about this film that I would want to take with me to my grave. Not even the lollipop sucking hostess and her cherry busting bartender helps this ?-grade movie.

Stolen

edge-of-your-seat entertaiment
If you like Taken then you will like this, it's pretty much the same story except this time they are messing with Cage. Josh Lucas is also fun to look at. Simon West is a very underrated action director. This movie is fast-paced from beginning to end. And there is a very exciting car crash. So just relax and you will enjoy it. By the way don't listen to critics' review because they want you to believe this is the worst film of all time which it is not. It is a piece of entertainment and it serves its purpose well. Critics are just so boring they like everything that's pretentious but not a fun action thrill ride. And did I mention Malin Akerman is hot!!!!! I highly recommend it.

Generic & un-original but it is entertaining. For a non-Cage fan I will admit the movie is pretty Ok. This is watchable. B+
"Bad idea to steal from American's greatest bank robber." Will Montgomery (Cage) is the best at what he does. He picks a crew and breaks in and steals what he wants when he wants. He has decided on one last heist. Four people, ten million dollars, and they go their separate ways. At the end of the heist one wrong move changes the lives of all four people involved. Eight years later Will is out of prison and ready to start his life over, but nothing is ever easy for an ex-con. Most of you know that I am not a Nicholas Cage fan at all. This movie isn't terrible and he really is toned down in this for the most part but still has a few Cage moments in this. The idea of this is a little overused and like most Cage movies lately the movie feels really cookie-cutter like but I will admit that the movie is pretty fast moving and is entertaining. For a non-Cage fan that's a pretty high remark. Overall, generic but entertaining. I give it a B+.

Won't win any Oscars but good fun
As my title says this film won't win any Oscars but is good fun. As the other review said if you like Taken or any other kidnapped child for ransom film (there are so many) you will like this.

Don't take it seriously just enjoy a good action romp.

Billy Bishop Goes to War

We were off to fight the Huns
This movie is a filming of a famous Canadian one man play about Billy Bishop. Bishop was a famous World War 1 flying ace credited with shooting down more enemy planes than any other pilot during the war except for Rene Fonck and the Red Baron. The movie tells the story of how Bishop worked his way out of the infantry and into the flying corps, his battles in the air and eventual retirement from service.

The movie is well shot, but really just a filmed version of the play. As such, you should not expect to see actual aerial combat or historical reenactments of Bishop's life. Instead you will see Bishop reminiscing about his life while he drinks in a bar and sings songs with the pianist. The story can be sad at times and funny at others (in a black humor sort of way).

It stars the original stage actor Eric Peterson, who I saw perform this play about 20 years ago in Toronto. While much older, Peterson still has a great presence.
Overall, the movie is well...

Reader's Digest version of stage play
This is the first video of this play I have found in years of searching. It is an updated version to allow for the age of the two actors and is very good. There are a few bits of the original production that have been either written or edited out of this version. Most do not make much difference, but a few leave out lead-ins to later parts of the play. For instance, the discription of Cedric the butler is left out. So, when Cedric is refered to at the end of the scene one wonders who he is. I was able to follow along with the printed version of the play, which helped fill in the gaps.
All-in-all I'd say its a Hell of a good time.

Sleepwalk With Me

Excellent film full of bittersweet comedy
I've seen Mike Birbiglia in a few stand up broadcasts, but really knew nothing about him, except that I liked his laconic, stutter-step approach to delivering his material. He seemed like a funny guy who also happened to be sorta nice too. I knew nothing about his book, Ira Glass appearances or one-man off-Broadway show. That's probably a good thing, because I was able to enjoy SLEEPWALK WITH ME pretty much on its own terms.

Apparently this movie is quite autobiographical, even though Mike has changed his character's name to Matt. But Mike/Matt frequently talks directly to the camera, and we're assured the story is true...so it's almost impossible not to assume that we're basically seeing a (perhaps exaggerated) take on Birbiglia's life. But it doesn't really matter either...the story is compelling and says some interesting things about relationships and about how a stand-up comic builds their career literally from the ground up.

Matt is in an 8-year...

Bitter-sweet and funny at the same time
"Sleepwalk With Me" (2012 US release; 90 min.) brings the story of Matt (played by Mike Birbiglia) as he struggles with a sleep disorder and tries to salvage his long-time relationship with Abby (played by Lauren Ambrose). Abby wants to get married, badly. Matt, not so much. Abby is looking for any sign from Matt that he will propose, which he eventually does, after an emotional side trip that makes him feel guilty and ashamed. Parallel to all of this, we see Matt getting his start on the stand-up comedy circuit, and barely hnaging on. Then, one day, he makes a funny quip about his failing relationship with Abby, and wouldn't you know, the audience eats it up! I don't want to give more away, you'll just have to see for yourself how it all plays out.

Several comments: first and foremost, even though he plays a character called "Matt", this story is based on Mike Birbiglia's own life experiences (in fact, before this became a movie, this was an unexpected off-Broadway hit...

Sleepwalk With Me.
A funny comedy about a man with a serious medical problem while we get observe his life. It's something to watch before considering marriage.

Bro

Film Goer
What a Fun, intense Movie BRO is. I really could relate to the story as I've known people in this world.
I was also very impressed with the look and feel of the film. Nice job Justin!

DIRT BIKERS GONE BAD
Johnny (Will Chavez) is a clean cut boy who works at the fitness center. He starts to date Stephanie (Rebekah Graf) who introduces him to her brother Jesse. Jesse is a dirt biker. He has full body tats and heavy on the turquoise jewelry. He deals drugs, goes to parties, has numerous female conquests, and talks like he is from another planet. Jesse takes Johnny under his wing and introduces him to his world, one that Stephanie wants no part.

While the film has a plot, it is mostly about Johnny destroying his life. I found the film to be rather boring and pointless, especially Jesse, who is so far out of my universe, he lacked any decent frame of reference. I suppose if drug dealing dirt biking is your niche, this could rate 5 stars. Danny Trejo has a couple of scenes in the film, but clearly he is role is hyped.

Parental Guide: F-bombs, sex, nudity. Not worth a Red Box rental.

Congratulations its a bro!
Waited a while for this to come out, was worth watching, the music is good, the acting is decent. The movie is a good representation of a lifestyle, the message is clear in terms of the consquences for poor life decisions that is reflected upon in this film. Great musical artists from kmk, dirtball, swollen members. although it is my opinion that the worst part of the movie was seeing j-king in it, dudes a lame. Thats about it 4/5 stars, watch it.

The Wise Kids

Good, but not what you would expect.
One would assume this movie would write itself - gay boy, southern religious community, the plot seem infinitely predictable. But that is not this story. This is a new take on an old theme. Oddly, in a manner of speaking, the gay kid is the only one who actually has his act together. It is everyone else that is falling apart.

Though we do see standard themes, the are presented with a twist.

The lead actor is very good (Tyler Ross) and he was also very good in " Nate & Margaret ", another movie well worth watching. I think he has great potential as an actor, and the movie is worth seeing just to see him work.

Low budget, limited production values, but an engaging story with engaging characters, well worth a look for anyone who enjoys independent film.

Also, within the first few minutes of the movie, the title "The Wise Kids" makes perfect sense; very clever.

LOVE CONQUERS ALL
THE STORY IS ABOUT THE ENDLESS STRUGLE OF TRYING TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT AND ABOUT CONFUSING RIGHT AND WRONG WITH CUSTOM/TRADITIONS WHEN THEY CONFLICT.

Inner Conflict
The testing of the friendship between three friends from an evangelical Christian community. One is questioning the beliefs she has been taught; another is wrestling with his homosexuality; the third cannot accept her friends' doubts and orientation. A story of growing up and becoming comfortable with yourself.

The Rescuers [HD]

Rescue Aid Society Mice Save Orphan!
When a little orphan girl falls into the hands of Madame Medusa and sends a message in a bottle, the Rescue Aid Society answers in the form of Bernard (Bob Newhart) and Miss Bianca (Eva Gabor). What can two mice possible do to help the little girl? It turns out they can do a lot.

The movie starts on a reasonably funny note, as the rodent duo hop aboard an albatross to head for the swamps. Albatrosses are incredibly aerodynamic, but they are less then stellar at takeoffs and landings, and Orville the Albatross (Jim Jordan) proves no more adept than his brethren. After a plummet off a building that thrills Miss Bianca and petrifies Bernard, the journey has begun.

In the swamps the duo marshals the other animals to take on Madame Medusa (Geraldine Page), who needs the little orphan Penny (Michelle Stacy) to fit into a hole that leads to a cave. In the cave is located a quantity of jewels, but Madame Medusa is interested only in a huge diamond called the Devil's...

A Classic Disney Tale!!!
This is such a heartwarming story of two mice, (the voices of Bob Newhart and Eva Gabor), to set out to rescue little Penny from Madame Medusa on Devil's Bayou, that's it brings sentiment to my eyes when I think of it.

There's wonderful music, and the ensemble cast of the folks in the Bayou is terrific. Then of course there are the two crocodiles who are just as mean and evil as Madame Medusa, and all for what - the Diamond - and Medusa is going to never let Penny see her little Teddy again if she doesn't produce it.

This is classic melodrama for children, although not too heavy handed. It's a nice movie, but maybe a little too intense for the real small kids.

Highly recommended!!!

A charming and overlooked Disney animated classic!
In the grand Disney library of classics there are a few that you could consider sweet and simply sweet, a few of those would be Disney films that easily bring a tear to your eyes, like Dumbo, Bambi, The Fox and the Hound and this timeless Disney adventure, The Rescuers. There's something so sweet surrounding the adventurous tale of a little orphan girl, being forced into a dangerous underground cave by an evil woman, you get to feel for this character in every angle and with that love the entire film more and more each time to watch it. I mentioned this being a sweet and charming film mainly because of the character of Penny, the little orphan but certain scenes jump out as most charming, one of them takes place in Penny's home, Morningside Orphanage where she shares her feelings and emotions with the local cat, Rufus, crying because she longs for the love of a mother and father. Another one happens while Penny is lonely and feeling hopeless, praying for help, the whole scene in...

Hello Again [HD]

Shelley Long's greatest solo comedy effort
One of Shelley Long's better comedies, HELLO AGAIN is an entertaining "What If?" story with a twist. Lucy Chadman (Shelley Long) has it all...a rich plastic surgeon-husband (Corbin Bernsen), a devoted son, a faithful dog, great friends and a beautiful mansion. But when she accidentally chokes to death on a chicken-ball, her charmed life comes to a premature end. Enter her wacky sister Zelda (Judith Ivey) who resurrects Lucy with an ancient spell. But Lucy is shocked when she discovers how much time has been taken from her, with her husband now re-married to her supposed `Best Friend' (Sela Ward), and when the press finds out about Lucy's miraculous return from the grave, it's every man for himself!

Shelley Long radiates charm and warmth as Lucy. I've always loved Long and this is arguably her best solo comedy effort. She adds a lot of pathos and heart to the role. Judith Ivey is hilarious as Zelda; can you say `scene-stealer'?. Corbin Bernsen and Sela Ward play the...

I love Hello Again!
This is one of my all-time favorites! Yeah it's cheesy, but it's so funny... you really can't take it seriously. I can practically recite the dialogue with the movie, I've seen it so many times... it's great! Shelley Long is hilarious in this role.

Worth adding to your collection!
As a mother of two young children my husband and I often rely on our DVD collection for a night "at" the movies. Hello Again is just a cute film that the whole family can pile up on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and enjoy. This movie may seem silly to some but hey sometimes a good movie is just that...silly. I love this film and have seen it many times over without growing tired of it. I am anxiously awaiting its release on DVD.

The New Guy (2002) [HD]

Unexpectedly Great: Dark and Bright Both
I happened to see this movie in New York last year. It was a smaller movie, and I didn't know quite what to expect. I'm glad I saw it, because it was one of the most original fllms I saw all year. The director has a sense of black comedy that you don't really see too much of anymore -- it wasn't obvious or thickheaded -- and the actors, while not recognizeable figures from tv or other movies, did a great job with the material. It's one of those movies that just has a good feel to it. You'll be happy you watched it.

Directors Cut
This movie is FUNNY! If you are looking for a raunchy, rude, and wild movie, The New Guy:Directors Cut is for you. This version is not all that different from the original version. There are a few new scenes, including Gil (DJ Qualls) making out with Eliza Dushku in the sprinklers and some akward talks with Gil, his father, and the councilor . All in all, this is the version to buy, because it has more adult subject matter. And, who doesn't enjoy that?

A good movie.... for certain people
Anyone looking for teen melodrama, standard comedy, or normal people needs to mosey on away from this DVD. Yes you, shoo. This movie isn't for you. You'll probably hate it.

Now that those weirdos are gone, let me tell you why I love The New Guy. This movie isn't very good, and that is its strongest point. It exists to make fun of teen melodramas with a great assembly of random guest stars, completely mediocre cinematography, some movie mocking moments, and general randomness. This movie doesn't take itself seriously for a second, and neither should you. The whole thing is like a litany of "When really odd people do odd things and more odd random things happen to them". If this sounds like you, someone you know, or someone you used to be, then you'll enjoy this movie. If you can relax, have no expectations, and just let it flow I garentee you'll spend the film doubled over. It features over the top geeks like a midget tuba player, a couple ugly-pretty girls, a fat...

J.W. Coop [HD]

The RCA at its best before it became just entertainment.
Having grown up around Rodeo in the early 50s and 60s, I found J.W. Coop to be a magic carpet ride into the past when Rodeo hadn't been tainted by big money sponsors and television. One more thing that made this movie enjoyable to watch was that it was filmed on location in two of my home towns I lived in Porterville and Springville, California, as a very young man. Infact the young, teen, blonde girl stirring the pot in the movie (don't blink or you'll miss her) was one of my friends and she still lives in Porterville. Anyway, if you want to watch a good A- Rodeo movie with a small town feel to it, then pick up this solid, well written movie. One more thing, I had forgotten the movie, so I was really surprised by the ending. No special effects, just good editing and good writing. I felt I was watching my father rodeo again. He never made it big, but it was fun to see him try to earn some money doing what he loved.

COOP? How do you spell that?
Growing up in the Mid_West, the concept of "art' film was quite foreign to me in 1971. The first time I saw J.W. Coop, it struck me like a thunderbolt. Lots of ambin' around, reaction shots, quiet confidence, pseudo-documentary style, unspoken sub text...WOW.

A labor love for Cliff Robertson, JW COOP is an indie-like movie developed in the 1970's studio system, where titles like POSEIDON ADVENTURE and TOWERING INFERNO were the only things that made sense at the time.

As a result, studio-type compromises are evident throughout--Christina Ferrare is atrocious as the hippie-chick who interjects JW's dust covered mind-set to the present. I'm certain the original script-by Gary Cartwright and the ingenious Bud Shrake was likely funnier...and edgier.

What's left is still engaging, and the rest of the supporting cast is solid, the story interesting--spiced with wonderful little vignettes throughout. I highly recommend.

Blast from the past
My brother was searching for a movie we saw in the eary 70"s . He would have been only ten then. Found it and plan on surpriseing him and watching it with him some evening.

Fragment of Fear [HD]

Equal parts fear and suspense
I first saw this film on television in the 1980s, and was on the edge of my seat. This is, perhaps, a must see for all fans of David Hemmings, who delivers a totally believable perfomance as a former drug addict turned successful author. The plot involves the mysterious murder of the young author's aunt, plus an intricate web of blackmail, and the possible involvement of prominant political officials. The real mystery is exactly what the murdered woman was involved in, and with whom, since the murder is never solved. Furthermore, the possible political nature of the affair is made even more suspenseful by several attempts to drive the former drug addict insane, which are carrried out by someone who mysteriously knows everything about him. In the end, the viewer is left to decide exactly what did or did not happen, since there are no concrete answers, but only subtle implications. This is a brilliant and underappreciated suspense thriller that I highly recommend.

Superb Fim...Fantastic Soundtrack! Dont Miss!!
Another golden nugget from perhaps one of the best years in film, 1970. Fragement of fear is right dead center in a time when films looked wonderfull, natural lighting abounds in this film along with a soundtrack that is as important as the rest of the parts. Hollywood take note...you lost your way, now you need to find the path back to the vocabulary, look and forward thinking of 60/70's. It's long past due. Hat's off to director Richard C. Sarafian!!

Fragmented to the point of frustration
"Fragment of Fear" from 1970 stars David Hemmings the same year after he did "The Walking Stick" with Samantha Eggar and was directed by Richard C. Sarafian, the director who did "Vanishing Point" and then "The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing." He is the same author who worked on Warren Beatty's "Bugsy" and "Bulworth." "Fragment of Fear" is beautiful to watch, but as the disclaimer says, "Go ahead and tell the ending, if you can fit all the pieces together!" it is fragmented to the point of frustration and does not seem to let up and with the film being available now through Columbia Classics, one can watch it over and over to get all the clues. The writing by Oscar winner Paul Dehn and cinematography by Oscar winner Oswald Morris are standouts. Hemmings was a new kind of hero. But it all depends on that missing cohesiveness that one wonders if it is really there.

Short Circuit [HD]

Loved Number 5 - And Your Family Will Too!
Short Circuit is one of those movies that when it came out in 1985 I remembered walking out thinking what a fun film that was. Alley Sheedy and Steve Guttenberg were a great screen team. And fresh of Saturday Night Fever ad Wargames, director John Badham really showed the compassionate side of humanity. This is a warm and friendly family film for everyone.

The plot is simple - aren't they all? The military develops a device meant for war and `first strike' and decides to take it to the officials of the government for funding. Five very unique and laser-powered robots are built. Something happens to one of them, "Number 5", during the demonstration where an electrical storm creates an electrical surge and super jolts Number 5. Guess what? He comes alive! Complete with a personality and a small amount charm. He escapes (accidentally) and befriends an animal activist Stephanie (Sheedy) while Newton (Guttenberg) is assigned to chase him down and get him back.

Now add the adversary of...

Blu-ray: Charming 80's comedy film on Blu-ray. Picture quality is a little off but overall, an improvement over the DVD release
In 1986, the film "Short Circuit" was released in theaters and made over $40 million domestically. The film about a US military robot gone awol after an electrical surge and eventually developing a conscience attracted moviegoers.

The film is directed by John Badham ("WarGames", "Blue Thunder", "Point of No Return") and a screenplay written by S.S. Wilson ("Wild Wild West", "Ghost Dad", "Tremors") and Brent Maddock ("Wild Wild West", "Heart and Souls", "Ghost Dad").

The film kicks off with a military testing as NOVA Robotics is showcasing five robots developed for the Department of Defense. The military looks to use these robots against Moscow (note: This film was released during the Cold War between the US and U.S.S.R.) and we see the robots taking out tanks and vehicles with their laser beams.

Due to weather, everyone is brought inside of the laboratory to celebrate the robots and a Senator requests for the PR director of NOVA Robotics Howard...

"Circuit Breaks Out With Laughter"
"Short Circuit" is one of those motion pictures that I enjoy viewing so much about a Nova Robotics Robot named Number 5, struck by a power surge of lightning and giving him life. He suddenly escapes with a malfunction and searches for "imput". Later, he befriends a young woman named Stephanie Speck (Ally Sheedy) who gives him imput about life including animals, laughter from the Three Stooges on TV and even death (or in Number 5's case, "disassembled.") He then learns that Nova and the team want Number 5 destroyed and makes a break for it through the roads of Oregon. Steve Guttenberg plays a creator of the Nova robots when he and his friend Ben Jabituya (Fisher Stevens) look for the robot first before Howard (Austin Pendleton) and Skroeder (G.W. Bailey) does and destroy him. The show stealer is Number 5 (voiced by Tim Blaney.) The comedy Number 5 shows in "Short Circuit" will please kids as well as adults with hilarious and...

The Mother's Courage: Mary Thomas Story

Excellent Movie
The name of the movie is "A Mother's Courage: The Mary Thomas Story, because, she is the force behind the family. I grew up in Chicago & have great respect for Isiah's mother. The story is both inspirational & touching. Today, we need to be aware of what it is to protect our children while bringing them up with a boldness mingled with discernment. Wonderful movie! A must-see.

White Fang [HD]

A must see movie!!!
This is an absolutely incredible story that touches your soul and warms your heart. The development of the relationship between a younger and an older man, compliments and mirrors in many ways the development of the relationship between the young man and the wolf/dog. Compassion, trust, love, pain...all of these abound in this movie. In addition to the touching story is the awesome Alaskan landcape and sceenery. We own this movie and have watched it many times, yet we never tire of it's honesty. A highly recommended movie...You won't be dissapointed!!!

An all-time personal favorite still not properly presented
Disney's White Fang is one of my all-time favorite films. Many don't see it as much of a cut above the average, but few films are as touching or as beautiful to me as this one is. A heart-warming story with good performances and photography that captures all the epic majesty of the Alaskan landscape.

So why does it only get three stars? Well, that's Disney's fault for releasing it only in full-frame format. A film of such awe-inspiring scenery and photographic grandure deserves to be seen in it's original widescreen aspect ratio. And if they can release the inferior and ridiculously useless sequel in anamorphic widescreen, one can only wonder why they wouldn't give this film the same treatment. I realize that sometimes pan-and-scan prints are the only ones available, but this film is not that old, and in any case the German DVD (the title over there is "Wolfsblut") was released in widescreen with an English audio track, so Disney must have a widescreen print in their...

Excellent movie!
This was such a magical movie, and yet totally realistic! The relationships feel real, the characters seem genuine, everything about it was perfect. This is a great movie for everyone! It teaches about compassion, friendship, perseverence, and kindness in the tale of a boy who heads to the gold rush to make his fortune, and makes some lifelong friends along the way. I also recommend Iron Will if you like this one!

Ride Beyond Vengeance [HD]

Not Your Run-Of-The-Mill Western,
"Ride Beyond Vengeance" is more than a typical western. Although produced on a low budget by television producers Mark Goodson And Bill Toddman ("The Price is Right") and featuring several names mostly familiar to TV audiences, it has a dynamic, if pessimistic script more concerned with character development than standard action--not that the film lacks action or violence.

Cowboy Jonas Trapp (Chuck Connors of "Rifleman" fame) falls in love with the beautiful Jessie (Kathryn Hays), very appealing in her first film, a wealthy girl out of his humble class. Against the wishes of her snobbish aunt (Ruth Warrick), she marries him, later faking a pregnancy to win her aunt's consent. But Jonas tires of living off of his wife's family, and eventually deserts her to become a buffalo hunter. 11 years later, with his self-made fortune, he sets out to return home, only to be set upon by three sadistic marauders, Michael Rennie, Bill Bixby and Claude Akins, who steal his money and leave...

Terrfic!
Terrific movie; a fine example of 1960's Westerns. Chuck Connors is superb and remains one of the finest actors of his generation and of the Western genre.

"whiskey man, he just killed us both"
A very entertaining movie unlike any western you'll ever see. Chuck Connors tears up the screen with his charisma, towering presence, and fists! Most everyone in this has their talents fully exploited with drunkard Claude Akins always talking to his imaginary alter ego "whisky man", uptight dandy Bill Bixby, and freaked out murder witness frank gorshin making the most of their screen time. Full of action, drama and a wicked sense of humor (just under the surface), almost every scene is a classic for one reason or another. Chuck really does get "branded" this time by cattle rustlers Akins, Michael Rennie, and sadist Bill Bixby, after which he discovers his money gone and heads to town looking for his old flame and the three guys. Kathryn Hays is tough and does a great job as Chuck's wife whom he deserted years back to pursue his fortune. Although this is a violent movie, there is no blood. Besides the rifleman this is Chuck Connors best role. 16x9 DVD pitcure is great, mono audio also...
